Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the federal government has expanded the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program by $300 million over two years to help property owners make their homes more energy efficient. Effective April 1, 2009, grant amounts have been increased by 25 percent. Homeowners are encouraged to act now to take advantage of this special, limited-time offer. It is estimated that the additional funds will extend the reach of the current program to an additional 200,000 homeowners.
The retrofit grant encourages homeowners to undertake deeper retrofits for higher energy savings by rewarding property owners based on the recommended measures they adopt.
The amount of your grant will depend on the improvements you make in your home from among the list of qualifying measures recommended by your Certified Advisor. To be eligible, you will need to invest a minimum of $300 in retrofits. The more you do to reduce your home’s energy consumption, the more you can expect to get back in the form of a retrofit grant. The maximum per property grant is $5,000 and the the maximum grant for property owners with multiple properties is $500,000.
Ontarians eligible for an ecoENERGY grant will receive an identical amount from the provincial government through the province's Home Energy Retrofit Program, increasing the maximum grant amount to $10,000. The province will also pay for half the cost of the first audit (up to a maximum of $150). Separate applications are not necessary for the provincial rebate and retrofit grant.
